Phil
Saruk, an extremely versatile guitarist, has been teaching
jazz guitar and fretted instruments at Robbins Music Center
for the last 8 years. He has also taught at The Northwest
Shoals Community College for the last 6 years. He has taught
Improvisation at the University of North Alabama in the
continuing education and has also taught guitar classes at The
University of Alabama in Huntsville.Phil
has been a session player on many record dates as well as
commercials. Since moving to Alabama, Phil has performed at
the Heritage Club, Von Braun Civic Center, Fontanella's
Italian restaurant, Stephano's, Barnacle Bill's, Nabeel's, and
many others. He has also performed for the W.C. Music festival
for the last 7 years.
Some
of the local artists that Phil has performed with include:
Harvey Thompson, Charles Rose, Ed Jones, Lloyd Jones, James
Counts, Bob Wray, Sherrard Fields, Mike Mitchell, and Dr.
Jimmy Simpson (head of the music department at The University
of North Alabama). Phil also performs solo guitar for Weddings
and other special occasions. |

Music has been Gary's life since he was a young child. He's been teaching in the Huntsville area for over 35 years spending the last 15 at Robbins Music. He starting teaching as soon as he graduated high school. It started as a part time job that he found so fulfilling that it became career. He teaches music theory, music reading in all styles and genres or he can help you learn your favorite song. With his vast amount of experience, he can easily tailor his teaching methods to the individual students to improve the quality of each and every lesson.
When Gary was a 9 years old, he toured with the Burlington Boys Choir for 4 years and performed throughout Europe, including singing for the Pope, and also throughout the states where he performed at the White House! He attended UNA and studied music.
In addition to teaching, Gary has been a part of many local bands. He currently plays with Relayer which was formed in the early 80's and joined Time Machine about 5 years ago. Some former groups he was a part of include Decade, Hard Knocks, Big Daddy King Fish and he has sat in with the Night Owls on numerous occasions!
Over the thousands of students Gary has taught, several have pursued successful careers in music. From the Dean of Music to travelling bands to music teachers, Gary has helped many reach their potential to play guitar, bass guitar and the keyboard. |

Jimmy Baker

Jimmy is a musician in his late 20s that has grown up playing both older and newer styles of music. He keeps up with new artists and songs that come out and continues researching the latest teaching and playing techniques. He's been playing guitar since 1989 and has been an active musician playing in various bands around the southeast since 1999. His most recent success was from 2007-2010 where he traveled the southeast region on a tour called "Slave to the Metal." That band had one of their songs recorded on a Motley Crüe sampler CD that Nikki Sixx released with his autobiography in 2009. Jimmy has had multiple songs of his played on the radio and sold in stores.
Jimmy specializes in teaching heavy metal, hard rock, classic rock, blues & country. He uses may teaching and playing techniques including guitar tablature, chord diagrams, scale diagrams, left and right hand exercises, chord theory, scale theory and improvisation. Jimmy has a wide variety of students including guys and girls from 8 years old to 50 and over. Some of his students have won talent shows at their schools and other have started their own bands who are actively playing now.

Teaching Experience:
First band director in the Madison
County school system, ten years at New Hope High School and
various other schools. He has taught private music lessons over a
period of 60 years. He has over 54 years experience in Jazz Band.
Playing Experience: He played with the
well known "Auburn Knights" dance band while attending
Auburn University and with the 8th Division Band and 3rd Army Band
in Atlanta as a bandsman in the army. Charlie formed his own
professional combo (dance band) in 1954 and is still active at the
present time. He also formed a 17 piece "big band" that
is still active today. He is a Charter Member of the Symphony Orchestra, Songwriter of international recognition in writing. Lessons are $15/half hour lesson |

Oscar Newman is a professional musician and dedicated teacher of strings. He has more than thirty years experience teaching music to students of all ages. A graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelors degree in string bass performance, Oscar earned his Masters of Music Education degree from Alabama A&M University. He studied under a renowned bassist while at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Oscar has played with numerous orchestras, including twelve years with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, several of those as principal bassist. He served as assistant conductor of the Metro Youth Orchestra and conductor of the Debut Orchestra for 15 years. Oscar retired from the Madison County Schools after twenty five years teaching strings and general music. He maintains a private teaching studio. An accomplished Bassist in both classical and jazz music, including solo guitar, he has performed professionally with jazz groups for many years.

Steven Porter received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Alabama in 1996. While there, he studied with Dr. James K. Simpson, Mr. Rick Mason, Mr. Lloyd Jones, Dr. Edd Jones, and Dr. Tom Ed Moore.
Steven has been involved with music education and performance for over 15 years; teaching all levels of music from beginning to pre-professional to include theory, stage performance, jazz, improvisation, blues and rock. He is currently the Band Director for Scottsboro Junior High School, Collins Elementary School and the Assistant Band Director at Scottsboro High School all located in Scottsboro, Alabama.
Steven performs with the Nashville Blues Society, and the Classic Blues Jam. He has performed sax/keys/vocals with various rock, blues, and country bands in West Tennessee including Bluesberry Jam and Shiloh. Lessons are $20/half hour session |

Carla Durham is a graduate of the University of Alabama in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy. She holds the credentials, MT-BC, Music Therapist-Board Certified from the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Carla interned at St. Luke's Medical Center and St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. There she worked with in-patient psychiatry patients of all ages, medical patients, Hospice, and Head Start of Cleveland. Upon completing her degree, she worked for three years as a music therapist in the Decatur City Schools with students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as with others with various developmental disabilities. Carla currently has a private practice through Valley Music Therapy in North Alabama. Contracts have included Hospice of the Valley, Limestone County Schools, The Volunteer Center of America in Hartselle, and several private clients. She taught preschool music at First Baptist Church Decatur and taught Musikgarten, an early childhood music program, at the School of Fine Arts at First Baptist. Carla is also licensed in Kindermusik, teaching in Decatur and Huntsville for several years. New clients in Huntsville include Hospice Family Care, children with autism and adults with traumatic brain injuries. As a consultant, she works with Early Childhood Music in Huntsville for their Music4Me class for children with special needs.
Carla also teaches private oboe lessons to students in the Huntsville area. Lesson costs are $80/month for 4 half hour lessons. |

With over 40 years of teaching music lessons, Bianca also is the founder and director of the Gazebo Concerts and the Alterezza Concerts. She is a member of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (25+ years), Clarion Winds (clarinet choir), SouthWinds Chamber Players, Bavarian Sauerkrauts Polka Band, First Baptist Church Orchestra, Twickenham Winds, Wynd N Wyre & Sugar N Spice. Two of her students have auditioned for and won a place in the woodwind section of the Top Huntsville Youth Symphony!!!!

Jordan Roberts

Jordan has been playing tuba for 16 years, including 6 years of playing professionally. He has taken private lessons from Alan Baer, principal tubist of the NY Philharmonic Orchestra, John Manning, professor of tuba at the University of Iowa, Lee "Westy" Westenhofer, a famous jazz tubist and bassist, and Shane Pettitt, former instructor of tuba at the Armed Forces School of Music. Jordan graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in 2007, and is currently working on his BA in Music at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Jordan is currently playing with several professional musical ensembles including the Army Materiel Command Band on Redstone Arsenal. He has played with Rebirth Brass Band, Fusion Brass Band, The Big Fat Dixieland Band, Absolute Brass, and Standard Brass. He has also served with the 77th Army Band (Fort Sill, OK), the 76th Army Band (Mannheim, Germany), the 1st Armored Division Band (Wiesbaden, Germany) and the 399th Army Band (Fort Leonard Wood, MO).
Jordan offers all levels of tuba lessons, beginning to intermediate euphonium/baritone lessons, and beginning trumpet lessons.

Mark-Daniel Mitchell is a versatile trumpet player who has been performing professionally for over 10 years. He earned his Bachelors degree from Wheaton College in 2008, and joined the Army Material Command Band in 2009, where he occupies the first trumpet chair. New to the Huntsville area, Mark-Daniel has established himself in the local music scene playing lead trumpet for "The Drowsy Chaperone" and "Hairspray!" with the Lee Lyric Theater, solo trumpet with the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra, and making appearances with several local rock bands including "Groove" and "DiscOasis". This summer, he conducted master classes with the Huntsville High School trumpet section, focusing on Marching Band brass technique. Mark-Daniel offers lessons for beginning/intermediate and advanced students of middle and high school age that focus on several areas of trumpet performance. Areas of focus include lead playing, jazz improvisation, range, tone, endurance, and ear training. The lessons are designed to help students master trumpet performance in a broad variety of styles and settings, from Classical to Jazz and beyond. Lessons in beginning and intermediate jazz improvisation are also available to students on any instrument.
Due to Mark-Daniel's military obligations, lessons are currently only available on Saturday's. Lesson's are $25/Half-hour. |

Dykes has served as the horn and trumpet instructor for the Pennyroyal Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) in Hopkinsville, Ky., and as a contract musician for Roxy Regional Theatre, First Christian Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, and PAFA. He has performed in numerous master classes and as a soloist. Notable works performed include among other works, Fredrick Witt's Concerto for 2 Horns in F with the New York All City Orchestra and Mozart's Concerto #3, 2nd movement, with the Greater New York Councils Band. He is currently active as a soloist and adjudicator. |

Susan Mendel has recently returned to Huntsville after retiring from public school teaching in Texas and Mississippi. A graduate of Lee High School in Huntsville and a former three year Alabama All-State Clarinetist, Ms. Mendel is eager to establish a studio of private clarinet and saxophone students in the Huntsville area. She will also be accepting students for beginner flute and vocal lessons.
Ms. Mendel has been teaching public school music for thirty-one years. She has taught Elementary General Music, High School and Middle School Band, High School, Middle School, and Elementary School Choir as well as private Clarinet, Saxophone and Piano instruction. Her goal as a private teacher is to provide all of her students with the knowledge and skills to be successful in their chosen area of music while developing a lifelong love of music.
Ms. Mendel is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Clarinet Performance and Music Education. She is currently active in the Huntsville Concert Band, the Twickenham Winds, the Music Educators National Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas State Teachers Association and the Texas Choir Directors Association. |
