About Us

Over 55 years of Musical Excellence!

      During the summer of 1955, a young entrepreneur and former band director from Mississippi by the name Berlin Jackson Robbins opened a small music shop off the town square of the growing city of Huntsville, Alabama.  This small shop would hail to be Huntsville's first music store!  Specializing in the sale of school band instruments, record albums, and quality service, Robbins Music Center would grow to become a favorite among amateur and professional musicians alike.

Mr. Robbins's wife, Hazel, helped her husband found Robbins Music Center, Inc. in 1955.  She would remain a vital figure in the company until her death in 1999.
Today "Robbins," as we are commonly called by locals, has grown to offer a full line of musical supplies ranging from the most basic musical instruments to the most advanced PA and recording equipment.  We may no longer sale records or reside off the downtown square, but we still take pride in having the quality products and service.  We are a home grown family business (going on three generations) started with good old hard work and a prayer.  We have grown to be one of the South's major players with many divisions of expertise, professional teachers, and performers to serve you.

Mr. Robbins and Hirt became friends while playing with each other in 82nd Army Air Force Band during World War II. They would remain close until Mr. Robbins death in 1986. This photo is thought to have been taken shortly before Hirt headlined for the halftime show of Superbowl I in 1967. The identities of the man and woman on the left are unknown.

Our sales staff continues to be one of the most knowledgeable in the business, as most of our salesmen have had over thirty years experience in the music profession.  Now for over half a century, Robbins Music Center has been serving the needs of the entire music community of the South.

Although the deep south may not be known for its technological prowess, here in Huntsville (The Rocket City) we have been putting men on the moon and beyond ever since the Saturn V rocket was designed here over forty years ago. Therefore, we as a music store have always been driven by technology.

Our engineer clientele has kept us on the cutting edge of technology and keeps us years ahead of our competition.  After all, it takes a pretty knowledgably salesman to sell a digital keyboard to a rocket scientist; our staff has been doing it for years.  We are not your typical online store, however:  we prefer direct contact with our clients (i.e. email or telephone) in order to insure customer satisfaction.
